Interesting Creatures From Japanese Folklore
|In Japanese mythology and folklore, fairies are important characters that appear in many forms. The term “fairy” can also refer to different kinds of animals, but more commonly it refers to the female counterparts of the dragon and the bear. Some examples of these female beings include the beautiful fairy called Rani, the beautiful genie known as Katsu, the small fairy known as Sayulita, and the evil fox Hyakuren. All of these different kinds of fairy figures can be found in both traditional Japanese folktales and modern day stories written in English. This is one of the reasons that the character of Rani is so popular among Japanese people.
The other well-known female fairy figure from Japanese mythology is the Sawari; she is a major character in many legends of the gods. Sawari is the wife of the god of rice, and she is also the goddess of childbirth. Like other members of the “Bakugan” series, Sawari is a creature from the land of Vestoria, an alternate version of Earth where various different kinds of monsters have taken up residence. Like most of the other Fairies, she is a powerful healer and is sometimes depicted as holding a cross.
Other major examples of Japanese folklore creatures include the Kitsune, which according to some stories can only be seen by a son who is extremely close to his mother; the Kohaku, which is a kind of animal that possesses great healing abilities; and the Geminis, which are half-human, half-apes creatures with magical powers. The Geminis are often represented as beautiful ladies carrying lanterns. If you’re interested in collecting these sorts of creatures from Japanese mythology and other tales of the Japanese culture, there are several subjects you can choose from. These include animal deities, human-hare statues, and of course, the infamous Geminis. In addition to traditional figures like the Kitsune and the Kohaku, collectors also like to collect the more modern creatures from Japanese folklore, like the Geminis and the Kohaku. Whatever your interest, it can be fun to add these colorful little creatures to your personal collection.
